FGB4 Image

I’ve signed up to participate in Fight Gone Bad IV to raise money for Athletes For a Cure and the Wounded Warrior Project. We will compete on September 26, 2009.

“Fight Gone Bad” is a CrossFit workout consisting of 3 5-minute rounds, with a 1-minute rest between each round. Each round consists of the following circuit with 1 minute at each station:

  • Wall-ball shots, 10 ft. target, 20lb ball, (for Reps)
  • Sumo dead-lift high-pull, 75 lbs (for Reps)
  • Box Jump, 20” (for Reps)
  • Push-press, 75lbs (for Reps)
  • Row (for Calories)

Your score is determined by the sum of all your reps and rowing calories. I have yet to break 200 points.

Blog Action Day

Today is Blog Action Day. This year’s topic is Poverty.

So what can I write about poverty? We immigrated from India in 1980. I grew up in a middle-class suburb of Chicago. Both of my parents worked. We didn’t have all the nice things other families had, but we had more than others. My parents owned their house, 2 cars, and were able to raise 3 kids and support immigrating family members.

But we also had help. We relied on other family members. We had rough times. And yes, we got help from the government at times.

Now, my two sisters and I earn more and live comfortable lives. We are all pretty liberal in our views and believe in helping others, because we realize we did not get to where we are on our own. So I’ve been using Kiva to loan money to entrepreneurs in developing countries. My wife and I also donate to Unicef to help children around the world.

What are you doing?

The Girl Effect

Found this via Rowan Manahan’s Fortify Your Oasis blog. Great presentation, powerful message.

What are you going to do to invest in a girl? If you are interested in other ways to invest in people in developing countries, check out Kiva.org – you can loan money to help people start and continue their businesses.

Tour de Cure 2008

I have just signed up for the Tour de Cure 2008 bike ride to raise money to support the American Diabetes Association. I will be riding a metric century (65 miles). This will be interesting, since I have not yet had a ride of more than 15 miles yet this year.

Here is the ADA Tour de Cure page

And my donation page , if you wish to donate to the cause

Unicef

I found this on a blog today. Watch the video (it’s only 4 minutes), and then head over to UNICEF
